Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner (CC) David Gitonga has called on young people across the County to turn up in large numbers and register as voters at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) voter registration centres.
Speaking in Chuka sub county, Gitonga said youth form the backbone of the nation’s democracy and urged them to take advantage of the ongoing nationwide continuous voter registration exercise and register as voters to ensure their voices are heard in the 2027 General Elections.
“The future of this country lies in the hands of the youth. I urge all of you eligible young people to visit the nearest IEBC offices and get your voter’s card. That is the first step toward choosing leaders who can address your challenges,” he said.
The CC called on local administrators, chiefs and learning institutions to help sensitise young people on the importance of registration, noting that their participation is vital in shaping the country’s future leadership.
He assured residents that the government has provided adequate security at all registration centers to ensure a peaceful and transparent process, adding that voter registration is a civic duty that strengthens democracy.
According to IEBC data, the commission is targeting 6.3 million new voters nationwide, most of them youth, in an enhanced voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general election.
