Education CS Julius Ogamba has urged universities to begin preparations for the first cohort of Competency-Based Education (CBE) students, who are expected to transition to universities in 2029.
Speaking during Kisii University’s 14th graduation ceremony, where the institution graduated its first-ever medicine students, Ogamba emphasised the need for universities to align their programmes with the CBE framework in collaboration with the Commission for University Education.
He further urged university managers to explore revenue generation initiatives to ensure institutional self-sustainability.
A total of 4,018 graduates were awarded degrees and diplomas across various disciplines. Notably, 24 students received Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees, highlighting the university’s focus on health, particularly cancer research and management.
The University Council Chairperson and Acting Chancellor, Dr. Sara Ruto, emphasized the importance of the Competency-Based Education approach in today’s world and encouraged graduates to embrace a continuous learning mindset to remain relevant in their careers.
