Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat, accompanied by senior police officers from Nairobi, on Saturday visited Mandera County to assess the security situation in the region.
During the visit, Mr. Lagat held a meeting with all senior security officials in the county, assuring residents that the overall security situation remains stable, with no significant incidents of insecurity reported in recent weeks.
“I want to assure the people of Mandera that there is no cause for alarm. The county is stable, and there have been no significant incidents of insecurity in recent weeks,” said Mr. Lagat.
He further noted that issues related to clan clashes have subsided and urged communities in volatile areas to uphold peace and the rule of law, stressing that every Kenyan had a right to live in peace regardless of where they reside.
“It is the responsibility of each one of us to protect our peace. Anyone who attempts to disrupt it will be pursued and brought to justice,” he warned
Mr. Lagat also reassured Mandera residents that individuals disrupting peace will be pursued and brought to justice.
During a closed session with police officers working in the area, Lagat acknowledged that welfare concerns, especially mental health would be addressed.
“Our officers’ mental well-being is key to effective policing. We will address these concerns to ensure our police are well-equipped, both physically and mentally, to serve the people of Mandera,” he assured.
