EAC ministers convene in Kisumu

The 23rd ordinary meeting of the Sectoral Council on Lake Victoria Basin (SECOM-LVB) commenced today in Kisumu and concludes on Friday, 16th May.

The meeting brings together ministries responsible for Water, Environment, Natural Resources, Maritime Transport and Communications from the East Africa Community (EAC) partner states.

The session for senior officials is scheduled for May 12 and 13, while Permanent/Principal Secretaries and Undersecretaries will attend on May 14 and 15.

The session for Cabinet Secretaries and Ministers will be held on Friday, May 16.

Participants will include representatives from the five East African Community (EAC) Partner States, namely the Republics of Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the United Republic of Tanzania.

The Sectoral Council on Lake Victoria Basin (SECOM-LVB) is the Governing body of Lake Victoria Basin (LVBC) which is an EAC agency responsible for coordinating sustainable development of the Lake Victoria Basin.

It is mandated to provide overarching policy guidance and oversight as outlined in Article 35 of the Protocol for Sustainable Development of the Lake Victoria Basin and Section 8 of the Lake Victoria Basin Commission Act, 2022.

The meeting will review the report of the implementation status of previous decisions and directives of the 22nd SECOM-LVB, report of the 11th Joint Regional Policy Steering Committee for LVBC Projects and Programmes, and report of Finance, Administration and Institutional matters.
