A form three student from Fr. Okudoi Secondary School lost her life in a grisly accident this morning at Lukolis market along the Busia-Malaba Highway.
The accident which occurred in the morning hours when students were rushing to schools occurred when the driver of a truck lost control hitting two students which left one dead and the other in critical condition.
The two residents were walking along the road when the truck hit them from behind.
Angry residents who rushed to the scene set the truck a blaze after the truck driver and co-driver were whisked away by the police.
The residents are now calling on KeNHA to erect road signs and bumps to address the rising cases of accidents along the road.
“From Busia to Malaba, there are no road signs, bumps are not up to standard, and there is a lack of paint to alert the road users. This has led to an increased rate of accidents along this road,” said an eyewitness.
The accident comes two weeks after another accident occurred where two trucks lost control before ditching in the river and in a related accident where a student lost his life in similar manner.
Busia County Director of Education James Ekalyo urged drivers to be cautious especially when approaching school. He challenged all road users to avoid overspeeding as they approach learning institutions.
The body of the deceased was moved to Alupe mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
