Four perish as boat capsizes in River Kerio

Four people died Wednesday, while 14 others were rescued after their boat capsized in River Kerio.
Two bodies have since been retrieved from the river at Luyere. Turkana central Deputy County Commissioner Alexander Mativo said, “Two adults with two children are among the dead. The boat is said to have carried 18 passengers on board, six jerricans of oil, three motorbikes and sacks of maize.”
Mativo added the cause of the accident has not been established saying that fourteen people who were rescued are recuperating at a nearby dispensary in Kerio.
Kenya Maritime Authority, Security officials and Coast Guard Services are on the ground searching of the remaining bodies.
However, the deputy County Commissioner has issued a stern warning to all fisher folks and passengers that no one will be allowed to board a boat without life jackets.
