The body of a 16-year-old girl from Sango sub location in Likuyani Sub County was on Thursday recovered in Kipsangui stream.
Moses Wamalwa, a family member, said the deceased, Catherine Nasimiyu, left her home on December 25, last year without saying where she was going but was never to return.
Her body was discovered in the neighbouring Mawe Tatu sub location by a group of children who were playing near the stream.
Mawe Tatu area resident Robert Luvembe said he had just returned home from work at about 1pm when his children informed him that they had seen a human body in the stream.
“I informed other residents and local administration and we managed to retrieve the body from the stream,” he told KNA.
Wamalwa stated that they made unsuccessful efforts to search for her but she could not be found.
“She sat her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) last year and was expected to join form one,” he added.
The incident comes barely five days after a 13-year-old girl, Lucy Wanjiru, a standard six pupil at Moi’s Bridge Township primary school was defiled and brutally murdered before her body was dumped by the roadside at Moi’s bridge.
Mawe Tatu sub location Assistant Chief Wycliffe Masinde said they suspect the victim was defiled and murdered before being dumped in the stream as the body was completely naked.
Her friends said they had met her at Sango market on Wednesday where she promised them that she would return home soon though she did not reveal to them where she lived.
Residents led by Mulati Wafula Ngao and Maurice Handa have decried the state of insecurity in the area following a spate of rape and murder incidents.
The body was taken to Kitale hospital mortuary for postmortem.
