Kericho County Commissioner Mr Gilbert Kitiyo has called on the contractors building the Majengo Tallai Affordable Housing Project and the Economic Stimulus programme (ESP) to focus on completing the project within the stipulated deadline early next year.
Mr Kitiyo who on Tuesday led a strong inspection team who comprised of various heads of department and technical officers at the Kericho Tallai Affordable Housing Project and the Kericho National Housing Corporation NHC noted that despite the government progressive payment to the contractors the work lagged behind the set completion date of January 15, 2026.
“The national government has honoured its part to meet the demands of the contractors but the pace is rather slow than expected. We need more work to be done and accelerated ahead of the scheduled time of completion,” Mr Kitiyo said.
The four ESP markets which are now ongoing include the Kapkatet market, Sosiot Market, Chesinende market and Lelu market in Kipkelion West.
The phase one of the Majengo Tallai will have a total of 324 housing units, comprising single bed rooms, two bed rooms and three bedrooms now at over 50 percent to completion.
The National Housing Corporation housing project will have 100 housing units, mainly 2 bed rooms units, Estate officer Ms Bernadette Karanja said.
Affordable housing projects were launched in the year 2022 in various counties under the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) one of the flagship projects under President William Ruto.
Once completed the project will enhance home ownership Kenyans, in line with the government affordable housing agenda.
Kericho families and other Kenyans in general will soon look forward to having modern and quality living spaces at affordable rates.
