Western regional security team has put on notice criminal gangs saying the government will spare no efforts to neutralize them.
The security team has also warned politicians recruiting gangs they plan to use to intimidate opponents or residents in the run-up to the forthcoming Malava parliamentary seat by-election in Kakamega County.
Speaking at Matsakha trading centre in Malava constituency, Western Regional Commissioner (RC) Irungu Macharia warned that the government was on high alert and will deal decisively with those who may be involved in incitement.
“We want to give assurance that the National Administrative Officers (NGAO) and security apparatus were ready and will not entertain unruly incidents ahead of the by-election slated for November 27, this year,” warned the RC who also chairs the regional security team.
The Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud urged parents to actively guide their children by monitoring their activities and instill moral values to prevent them from engaging in crime.
“Parents must speak to their children and dissuade them from being misused by politicians, but those caught on the wrong side of the law will be dealt with in accordance with the law”, he warned.
Mohamud said police in the area will be given additional vehicles to enhance security patrols following creation of new administrative units in the area.
The police boss highlighted defilement, assault and robberies as some of the challenges security agencies were being confronted with, adding that a number of cases have been effectively addressed.
At the same, the RC Macharia made a call to the public to volunteer information to security agencies by reporting criminal activities like cattle theft, especially at the border area with neighboring counties to tame the vice.
“We urge community’s members to cooperate with law enforcers by providing intelligence to help combat crime and improve safety,” he added.
Macharia also cautioned youth against taking destructive substances, which may ruin their chances of being recruited to the discipline forces, noting that medical tests are mandatory before admission.
“Medical tests will be carried out before being admitted and if you will be found to have abused drugs then you won’t make it,” he cautioned youth.
On defilement, the RC said the government will not have mercy on those found culpable, saying a decisive action would be taken on those found engaging in the vice.
