Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich has officially commissioned a fully equipped ambulance for Kapsowar Health Facility, marking a major enhancement in the sub-county’s emergency medical response capacity and referral efficiency.
The newly delivered ambulance, fitted with modern emergency medical equipment, is expected to substantially reduce patient referral turnaround times and lower associated logistical costs.
Governor Rotich noted that the unit will streamline the transfer of critically ill patients to Iten County Referral Hospital and other higher-level facilities.
Speaking during the handover at Kapsowar Ward, Marakwet West Sub-County, Governor Rotich underscored the strategic importance of the intervention.
“To improve referrals for our patients, today we delivered a new ambulance to Kapsowar Ward. This investment will strengthen our emergency response systems and ensure timely stabilisation and evacuation of patients,” he said.
He added that the county is expanding its healthcare infrastructure to improve service delivery across all levels.
“We are progressively upgrading our health facilities, deploying medical equipment, commissioning roads that support health access, and monitoring ongoing construction works to ensure compliance with standards,” Governor Rotich noted.
As part of the day’s activities, the county also conducted a free medical outreach programme, where clinicians from Kapsowar Mission Hospital collaborated with county health personnel.
The integrated medical team screened more than 500 residents for various conditions, providing both preventive and curative interventions.
According to the governor, such initiatives align with the county’s long-term strategy to expand primary healthcare coverage and strengthen emergency medical systems.
“This ambulance will enhance medical referrals and emergency operations, contributing to improved health outcomes and reduced mortality in critical cases,” he emphasised.
