Govt initiates security plan in Emali

Makueni County Commissioner (CC), Mr. Henry Wafula, has said that the government has initiated plans to beef up security in Emali Municipality to avoid future destruction of property along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

Wafula disclosed that the measures taken by the government follow the recent destruction of property and also the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway during the recent demonstrations by the youth expressing their anger over the 2024/2025 finance bill.

Though the administrator did not spell out the measures taken, he said it was imperative to improve security on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, which he said was a lifeline for Kenya, East Africa, and Central African countries in the region.

He disclosed this on Thursday after holding a meeting with Emali Municipal Board officials, where they agreed that it was imperative to beef security to prevent future destruction to property of business people in the municipality.

“Today we have had a meeting with the municipality officials of Emali town and the County Government of Makueni. We have agreed to beef up security in order to stop any destruction of property in Emali Municipality and the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway,” said Wafula while addressing the media in Emali town after the meeting.

At the same time, the County Commissioner said that they have agreed with the county officials to collaborate with the security team and governor of Kajiado to improve security along the common border, especially in Emali Municipality.

“Moving forward, we have agreed that Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. and his counterpart, Kajiado Joseph Ole Lenku, organize a meeting between security teams from both counties to come up with measures to improve security in our common border areas,” said the administrator.

Speaking at the same function, Emali Municipality Chairperson Ann Muthusi said security was key for the investors and other stakeholders to continue investing in the municipality.

Present at the meeting included Makueni County Secretary Dr. Justin Kyambi, Manager Emali Municipality Philip Ngila, and the County Security Team, among other county government officials.
