Govt lauds ongoing Mashujaa Day preparations in Kericho

Ministry of Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo says that the National Steering Committee and the National Technical Committee are satisfied with the ongoing preparations for the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kericho.

Dr. Omollo said that Mashujaa Day would be used to showcase a number of community healthcare promoters drawn from across the country.

The Interior PS said that in the run-up to the 20th celebrations, healthcare providers would be showcasing health care services at Kapkatet grounds, where the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would officiate the opening of the expo on October 16, 2023, that would run up to October 19, and that the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Musalia Mudavadi, would officially close the health expo.

Dr. Omollo, who led an inspection tour of the renovation and construction of the Karenga Airstrip, the County Commissioner’s residence, and the Kericho Green Stadium, expressed confidence that the on-going renovations would be 100 per cent complete by October 10.

While addressing the press at the stadium, the PS said that the roads leading to the stadium were also undergoing construction to ensure that invited guests and other Kenyans could access the stadium easily.

Dr. Omollo revealed that during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, the heroes and heroines would be recognised and honoured for their selfless contributions towards the liberation of this country and other aspects they made towards the realisation of the development of the nation.

He said all Kenyans are invited to join President William Ruto in marking the 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Speaking at the same function, Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni said the President would commission 100,000 health promoters during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, whose theme would be universal health care.

She said public health officers would inspect hotels within Kericho town to ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained, especially during the El Nino rains.
