Govt upgrades key road linking Nandi to Western Region

The government has begun upgrading a thirteen-kilometre road in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, which will connect Nandi with Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, and Bungoma counties upon completion.

The thirteen-kilometre road between Kaiboi Centre and Kipkaren River will be a breakthrough, according to the residents, who insisted the road poses many challenges during rainy weather.

Local traders did not hide their joy, admitting their journey to carry out their business activities within the constituency has always been associated with pain, frustrations and confusion because of the poor road network.

A resident, Ebby Chemutai, said at times women in labour or persons on medical emergency calls have their lives cut short because of poor roads connecting to referral hospitals.

Chemutai said completion of the upgraded Kaiboi Centre – Kipkaren River road will save many lives within the entire constituency.

Ben Majengo, a vendor from Kakamega County, said the completion of the upgraded Kaiboi-Kipkaren River road will bring many advantages to him and many other businessmen within the region.

“Many centers will develop with many business opportunities for the locals,” he said.

Henry Bittok, a resident within Kipkaren River, said farmers will have their products delivered to the market on time upon completion of the road.

He said farmers of fresh farm produce have had difficulties while delivering it to the market, adding, “We are asking our people to use the improved road to initiate companies like sugar milling so that farmers can benefit more,” Bittok proposed.

Furthermore, the residents thanked the continuing road-upgrading works for creating direct job opportunities for hundreds of locals, with those owning businesses admitting that their activities had flourished.
