Huduma Centre officials participated in the National Data Protection Advocacy Programme Sensitization event held today in Vihiga County, where they provided essential government services to members of the public following the main session.
The event, aimed at raising awareness about citizens’ rights and responsibilities under the Data Protection Act, 2019, attracted a large turnout, signaling growing public interest in personal data privacy and security.
Representing Huduma Centre was Michael Okwemba, who emphasized the importance of taking government services closer to the people.
“We always seek opportunities to engage the public directly and ensure access to essential government services at their convenience,” said Okwemba.
“It is not just about people coming to us; we are committed to going to where they are to serve them,” he said.
He added that Huduma Centre regularly leverages on public events, including community barazas, to deliver services and strengthen citizen engagement.
Among the services offered at the event were the processing of national identity cards, NHIF and NSSF applications, inquiries on various government services, and assistance with accessing the e-Citizen portal.
Many residents expressed appreciation for the convenience. “It saved me a trip to the Huduma office in town,” said one beneficiary, who was able to follow up on a pending application.
Event organizers praised the collaboration, noting that the integration of service delivery with civic education enhances citizen trust and boosts participation in government programmes.
