Ijara residents appeal for a new constituency

Ijara and Hulugho residents are appealing to the government through the Building Bridges Initiative to curve a constituency from Ijara constituency and name it Hulugho.
In a meeting held at Masalani town in Ijara constituency today, the residents said they have surpassed the threshold of 134,000 persons according to last year’s Housing and Population Census and appealed to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to consider Hulugho sub-county as a separate constituency.
Leading the meeting, former Ijara County Council chairman and Director of Livestock Market Council Mr. Dubat Ali Amey appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider Hulugho as a separate constituency as it meets the threshold.
The Deputy Garissa County governor Abdi Dagane and Ijara MP Sophia Abdi Noor also called upon the President to intervene for Hulugho to get a constituency as they had supported the BBI all through the process.
