Investigations launched following attack on Homa Bay Deputy Governor

Security personnel have launched investigations into an attempted gun attack on Homa Bay County Deputy Governor (DG) Oyugi Magwanga.

Homa-Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan said detectives have already visited the scene of fire exchange between gangsters and the DGs security personnel at Kabuor village, East Kamagak ward.

Lilan said the DG had recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and that they were following crucial leads to apprehend the suspects.

He urged members of the public to desist from speculations and unnecessary social media posts which can trigger fear and uncalled for alarm.

“I urge members of the public to remain calm as we get to the root of the incident, the county security team is assuring all the residents that their security our top priority.” Lilan said.

The administrator made the remarks during a press briefing in his Homa Bay town office.

He said the government had beefed up security for the DG and all the leaders in the county while thanking the DG for cooperating with the security personnel.

The County Commissioner’s remarks follows last Sunday’s incident during which gangsters trailed the DG as he was going back home in the evening. The gang were however repulsed by his security personnel after an intense exchange of fire.

The DG said he still feared for his life after receiving several threats prior to the gangster attack.
