Kajiado East MP disburses Sh26 million bursaries

By Rop Janet, KNA

Over 5,042 needy students from Kajiado East Constituency have benefited from Sh26 million in bursaries provided through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

According to Kakuta Maimai, the Member of Parliament for Kajiado East, all needy students from the constituency’s wards were considered, with some students awarded full scholarships.

“A total of 5,042 secondary school students will receive bursaries. Of these, 24 students have been awarded full scholarships, while five others from tertiary institutions will also benefit from full scholarships,” Maimai said.

The bursary programme aims to support vulnerable students to remain in school, complete their education, and reduce dropout rates among disadvantaged households.

Maimai urged students to make full use of the support by remaining disciplined and focused on their studies. He emphasized that the bursary is a tool to help them build their future and encouraged them to work hard and strive for academic excellence.

The legislator added that students in newly established secondary schools will also benefit from bursaries to ensure financial barriers do not hinder their learning.

“This support is intended to help our students stay in school, complete their education, and realize their full potential. Education is the key to empowerment, and we must all play a part in supporting our young people,” he said.

Parents whose children benefited welcomed the initiative, noting that it would ease financial pressures on families and allow students to concentrate on learning. They added that the bursaries would motivate students to work harder and reduce dropout risks.

“This bursary is a big relief for us. It means we no longer have to worry about fees and other school requirements, and our children can focus on their studies,” said Jane Ketukei, a parent from Kitengela Ward.
