Kakamega County has attained more than 82 per cent electricity connectivity in public schools and public facilities, Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has said.
Wandayi said the achievement demonstrates the government’s commitment to expanding electricity access and making power a catalyst for education, healthcare, enterprise, and improved livelihoods across the county.
Speaking on Monday during the flagging off of materials for the Kenya Power Last Mile Connectivity Programme (LMCP) at Lutali Village in Shirugu/Mugai Ward,Malava Sub County,the CS said the Government has invested Sh2.46 billion in electricity connectivity projects in Kakamega during the current financial year.
He said the investment targets 41,262 households across the county, with the programme expected to extend electricity access to more homes and communities that are yet to be connected to the National grid.
Wandayi, who was accompanied by Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, Malava MP David Athman Ndakwa, and Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, said improved electricity connectivity would create an enabling environment for businesses, support learning and healthcare services, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The CS also interacted with residents along the roadside and urged Kenyans to embrace unity, cohesion, and constructive partnership in support of President William Ruto’s administration.
Wandayi said Kenya’s development ambitions require citizens to put aside political differences, work together, and support initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans.
