Keumbu attack suspects’ plea delayed

The plea taking of six suspects arrested in connection with the alleged attack on Linda Mwananchi’s convoy in Keumbu was postponed yesterday after the prosecution and the arresting officer failed to appear before the Kisii Law Courts.

Senior Resident Magistrate Caroline Cheruiyot ordered that the suspects be remanded in police custody until the prosecution file is ready and the matter can proceed.

The six were arrested over the weekend following investigations and security operations conducted by officers from Keumbu Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisii Central.

The suspects are linked to the alleged attack on Linda Mwananchi’s convoy on Friday during a tour of the Gusii region. The convoy was reportedly stoned by a group of individuals, leaving one person dead and several others seriously injured.

The incident has attracted widespread condemnation from political leaders and civil society groups, who have called for speedy investigations and the prosecution of those responsible.
