The upcoming Kidundu Stadium, Vihiga County, currently stands at a 20 percent completion rate, according to Paul Atsiaya, an official under the China Road and Bridge Corporation Company dealing with safety, health and continuous improvement at the construction site.
Atsiaya added that the construction sketch plan was changed from the initial one by the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who talked to the Ministry of Defense team about having two gates at the stadium to allow players to access and leave the stadium at ease.
The construction of Kidundu Stadium was previously scheduled to end by August 2026, but due to some few changes, it will now be finalized by the end of December 2026.
“We had planned to finish the construction of Kidundu Stadium in August 2026, but due to unforeseen logistical challenges, China Road and Bridge Corporation Company will ensure completion by December 2026,” remarked Atsiaya.
To meet the timeline of December 2026, Atsiaya confirmed that in the coming weeks, they will be working day and night.
He noted that the construction is under the Kenya Defence Forces, who have been offering temporary jobs to local youths, who work under their supervision.
He said that depending on a particular day’s program, 100 to 200 area residents are taken for labour aid on the construction site.
Atsiaya explained that people are chosen for work depending on the need, urging those interested to avail themselves at the site on Sunday mornings to be given a chance for that week’s programme.
The official commended residents of Vihiga for their mutual cooperation in the implementation of this project, specifically the over 200 families that agreed to move out of their farms to enable the ongoing construction.
During an interview with KNA, Beatrice Kidogo, a resident of Kidundu expressed her happiness on the employment opportunities the project had accorded the local youth and women, leading to empowerment and the subsequent reduction in theft cases.
Kidogo expressed her gratitude to the president and prime cabinet secretary for actualizing the construction of Kidundu Stadium, saying they had waited for a long time.
