Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret is ready to host the 63rd Mashujaa Day national celebrations on Tuesday, with President William Ruto expected to preside over the event, Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has said.
Omollo said security, logistics and crowd management arrangements had been finalised to accommodate thousands of delegates and members of the public expected to attend the national event.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, the PS said stadium gates would open at 5am, with attendees expected to be seated by 8am. Entry would be coordinated through eight designated gates to ensure smooth movement into the venue.
The stadium has a seating capacity of 15,000, but additional arrangements have been made to accommodate overflow crowds at a secured holding field outside the facility.
Omollo said those waiting outside would be ushered onto the main pitch after the military parade and entertainment performances, depending on the available space.
He added that traffic management measures had been implemented across Eldoret, with security officers and marshals deployed to guide motorists and pedestrians.
“I urge the motorists and the public to work closely with the traffic and security officers,” he said.
On infrastructure, Omollo disclosed that Kipchoge Keino Stadium was approximately 80 per cent complete, with the remaining works mainly involving roofing across the terrace sections and rehabilitation of the pitch and running track.
He said the entire project was expected to be handed over by January next year.
The stadium preparations have included rehearsals by students and performance groups who will entertain guests during the celebrations.
This year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations are anchored on sports, security and the economy, with activities highlighting the government’s efforts to improve public safety, nurture sporting talent and stimulate economic growth.
Omollo said the national event would conclude a week-long series of discussions and activities showcasing government programmes and achievements under President Ruto’s administration.
He noted that the celebrations would not be limited to Eldoret, as parallel events would be held in the other 44 counties under the leadership of their respective County Commissioners.
