The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has launched a road safety campaign in Western Kenya to promote safe use of roads.
The campaign was launched at the KURA regional offices in Kakamega by KURA board chair, Engineer Charles Chiuri, on Friday.
Chiuri regretted that every time KURA improves road infrastructure, motorists get excited and drive carelessly, leading to road accidents.
He said road accidents are very costly and they affect every phase of people’s lives.
KURA director representing the Matatu Welfare Association, Basil Ndwiga Nyaga, asked Kenyans to participate in ensuring safety on our roads.
He noted that loss of lives affects the population and causes challenges in the economy where the country has to invest a lot in healthcare to take care of the injured and maimed.
“Each of us can contribute to the safety of our roads; we cannot afford to lose lives again. The loss of lives is not just a matter of statistics; it is a dent in our population, our economic welfare, and it challenges our economy,” he added.
