Nandi leaders have lauded the work of National Government Administrative Officers and other security agencies in maintaining law and order across the county.
Addressing the locals during the celebration to mark the 62nd Madaraka Day at Sirwa Yala Primary School in Kapkangani Division, the leaders said the NGAO team were coordinating well to ensure Nandi residents enjoyed a secure and peaceful environment.
Emgwen Member of Parliament, Josses Lelmengit, admitted that cases of insecurity across Nandi County were isolated and that the NGAO team led by County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili were working tirelessly to ensure there was peace in the County.
“We want to thank the police and the NGAO officers for the commendable work you are doing for our people because we understand that without security, we can’t do anything,” he confessed.
Lelmengit extended the gratitude to the security agencies who are fighting bandits in war-torn areas, including Kerio Valley.
“Even those working in bandit-infested areas, fighting those who steal cows and kill people, know that we recognize your work,” MP Lelmengit added.
He condemned the killing of Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett, the Catholic priest at Kerio Valley and pleaded with security agencies to work around the clock to arrest the killers.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, during his speech, agreed that there has been no major insecurity incident that divided the people since the time he was the county senator until now when he is serving his second term as the Nandi Governor.
He said people from different ethnic communities living in Nandi were living peacefully and working harmoniously with security agencies.
“I am happy that for my five years as the senator and my almost ten years as the Governor, we live in peace here in Nandi and there is no time we have fought along ethnic lines,” Sang revealed.
Sang asked different communities from other parts of the country living in Nandi to make Nandi their home and work without fear because peace is assured.
On the killing of Father Allois, Sang challenged security agents to be firm in rooting out bandits from Kerio Valley.
“We want to ask the government to be firm in rooting out the challenge of bandits out of Kerio Valley,” Governor Sang appealed to the Government.
Sang, however, called on the residents of Kerio Valley not to be intimidated by the bandits and to volunteer information that will lead the government to crack down on the bandits.
Commissioner Nzwili, on her side, thanked the local leaders who are working with security agencies across the county to ensure there was law and order.
“I am glad to hear that some leaders have noticed the efforts of security officers and NGAO in ensuring there is security in Nandi County,” Nzwili said.
She also thanked the Nandi County residents for working closely with the NGAO team and even the police for peace to prevail in Nandi.
Nzwili, however, called out some people who have started invading private land in different parts of the county, warning that the law will catch up with them.
The event was also attended by Nandi Deputy Governor Yulita Mitei and Nandi Central Deputy County Commissioner Alfet Jillo among other senior county and National Government officers.
