Two Nandi leaders have praised the Kenya Kwanza Government for embarking on initiatives that are transforming Kenya to a middle-income economy.
The leaders who were speaking on Sunday urged Kenyans to support the Government while launching programs aimed at improving their livelihoods.
Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei, singled out robust programs to expand the road network across the country as the key economic driver that will open remote parts of Kenya to lift the livelihoods of marginalized people.
He noted that good road networks boost business activities and improve connectivity in many parts of the country.
According to Cherargei, all economic programs initiated by the Kenya Kwanza Government is a sure journey to turn the economy of this country into middle income status.
Senator Cherargei argued that there was a need to protect the gains of devolution as counties now have gained greater independence to manage resources, deliver services, and drive grassroots development.
He emphasized the importance of protecting and strengthening the devolution, noting that its success depends on both effective National Government support and responsible County Governments.
The senator spoke during a fundraiser at PAG Church in Kapsabet Town on Sunday when he revealed that all funds allocated to Nandi County had already been disbursed by the National Government.
He said this affirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring devolved units receive the resources they need to fulfil their mandates.
Cherargei also lauded the President’s commitment to a universal health coverage scheme that is benefiting Kenyans.
“The government has been very successful after 30 million Kenyans have been registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA) which has been of great benefit to them,” he said.
Accompanying him was Tindiret Constituency MP, Julis Melly, who said that the education system in the country has taken shape after the commission employed a record of 100,000 teachers since they took office and that they have ensured that the last mile connectivity is felt and impactful in every constituency.
Melly praised the president’s initiatives of the broad-based government adding that it has led to peace and stability in the country and consequently, development has been realized.
The Senator, however, called on the County Governments to exercise transparency and prudent management of public resources and fight against corruption which has been a constant drawback to the country’s progress.
He further asked public leaders to exercise accountability and earn trust from the electorates through delivering what they promised in their manifesto.
The Senator condemned the recent cases of activists from Kenya going to destabilize peace in our neighboring communities. He said that as much as the Kenyan constitution allows for demonstration, Kenyans must respect the sovereignty of other nations and promote peaceful coexistence.
