Makueni to host the first National Mango Conference

Makueni will host the first ever Mango Conference in May, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has announced.

Mutula said the Conference will bring together mango producers, vendors and investors in the fruit industry.

“The first Mango Conference in Kenya, bringing all mango producers, sellers, investors and all the value chains, will be held here in Makueni in May this year,” said Mutula, while speaking at Wote.

He said the Conference which will attract investors will enable the County to showcase and market their fruit at both domestic and international markets.

“Makueni is the leading producer of mangoes in Kenya, we are expecting to export our mangoes to the international market, so that our farmers get good prices,” added Mutula.

At least 109,465 residents are growing and selling Mangoes through cooperatives, while some sell their fruit directly to the vendors.

The announcement comes after the County Boss met with the Agriculture and Food Authority Director of Horticulture crops, Benjamin Tito.
