The organising secretary of the South Nyanza Farmers and Business Network, Leonard Okumu, has called on President William Ruto to prioritize the revival of the Sony Out-growers Sacco Company during his visit to Migori County.
Okumu said that restoring Sacco’s operations would create employment and empowerment opportunities for residents and generate revenue for the government.
The Sacco, which remains dormant, has left many farmers without a reliable market for their produce, affecting the livelihoods of many cane farmers in the South Nyanza region.
He added that the income from such opportunities would also help parents pay school fees and improve the overall living standards of families in the region.
He expressed hope that the President’s visit would not only boost the local economy but also restore confidence among cane growers in South Nyanza.
President Ruto is set to have a leaders’ meeting at the South Nyanza Sugar Company (SONY) on August 14 this month.
