Business people in Igembe South have been urged to organise themselves into groups in order to access government grants and support programmes.
Igembe South Member of Parliament Johnpaul Mwirigi made the clarion call on Friday at Maua stadium during the launch of the Igembe South Bodaboda CBO.
He noted that many traders miss out on government opportunities because they operate individually yet government funds are designed to support organised and registered groups.
“Many business people cannot access government support or grants because they have not formed themselves into groups. The government does not support individuals,’’ Mwirigi said.
The legislator further reiterated his commitment to prioritising the warfare of his constituents, highlighting what he described as tremendous development achievements over the past three years.
The law maker added that his administration remains focused on transforming Igembe South for the betterment of the mwananchi.
During the event, Mwirigi supported the newly launched CBO with Sh200, 000 to boost its operations.
The ceremony was also attended by several leaders including Meru county woman representative Elizabeth Kailemia who donated Sh00, 000 to the group and promised to continue supporting the group’s project.
Meru governor Mutuma M’Ethingia who had been invited sent his apologies but pledged Sh500,000 to the CBO to support its activities.
The leaders encouraged bodaboda operators and other business communities to embrace unity and structured organisation, saying it would open more avenues for funding and economic empowerment.
