Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has called on eligible voters to take advantage of the nationwide continuous voter registration exercise that officially begins today.
Speaking over the weekend, Muhanda emphasised that registering as a voter is a crucial step in shaping the country’s future.
She urged Kenyans, particularly the youth and first-time voters, to ensure they carry their national identification cards and register at the nearest centres.
“This is our chance to define the kind of leadership we want. I am appealing to every eligible citizen to grab their ID and register as a voter. The power to shape the future lies in your hands,” she said.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has deployed registration clerks across all constituencies to facilitate the exercise.
The commission is targeting millions of new voters ahead of the next General Election.
Muhanda stressed that voter registration is not just a right but also a responsibility, noting that democratic participation begins with being listed in the voter register.
“I am particularly appealing to young people who have recently attained the age of 18. This is your moment to be part of decision-making in this country,” she added.
The continuous voter registration exercise will be conducted at constituency IEBC offices, Huduma Centres, and selected registration points countrywide.
Eligible Kenyans may register at any IEBC constituency office except in areas currently with by elections.
Services available include new voter registration, transfer of voter to a new location, correction or update of voter details and inspection of voter registration status according to the Commission.
