Muhoroni villagers want dumpsite

The residents of Kasese village in Muhororni Sub County in Kisumu County are up- in- arms, protesting over a dumpsite located in the area that has not only become an eyesore, but is now endangering their lives health wise.

“When this dumpsite was established there were promises to upgrade all the access roads in this area especially those leading to the dumpsite but the County government has utterly dithered on every single promise they made prior to establishing the dumpsite here” decried Peter Okoth, a resident

They further accused the Contractor in charge of revamping the dumpsite was allegedly offering foreigners the odd jobs the local youth could undertake by ferrying outsiders

The residents insisted that the locals had the right to take part in the exercise because they suffering due to exposure to possible contamination and risks of contracting diseases over the years.

The Kasese dumpsite residents also pointed a finger at the County government for failing to fulfill the pledges they made prior to establishing the dumpsite including the establishing a garbage recycling company in the area.

Okoth further decried that the County government besides reneging on its pledges prior to establishing the dumpsite that has brought many new calamities to the locals where even the roads leading to the dumpsite are now impassable and the dumpsite has now become only a source of misery to the residents.

“The Count government promised the residents of Kasese lots of development goodies prior to establishing the dumpsite in the area including sprucing the local roads that all were just empty promise” pointed Joel Owuor, another resident

The Kasese residents are also lamenting that the County government has equally dithered on the pledge to establish a hospital in the area that was a crucial pledge towards helping assuage diseases that could be brewed by the presence of the dumpsite the area.

The locals have since given an ultimatum to the County government that if not heeded to then they shall have no option but rise in protesting for the dumpsite to be relocated from the area.

“We have forwarded numerous complaints to the County government to speedily act and sort out the dumpsite mess to no avail till our homes are now being camouflaged by the dumpsite” lamented George Ooko, another resident

The residents are now threatening that if the County government does not make haste and fulfill all the pledges they were given prior to the establishment of the dumpsite in the area then then they will rise to demand its relocation.

“If the dumpsite continues to be only a anathema to us then it will have to be relocated because the pledges made prior to its relocation were empty” vowed Ooko
