Musingu High School football team, commonly known as scorpions triumphed over Ebwali Boys to lift the Western Region Secondary School Football title on Sunday at Mumias Sports Complex.
Musingu hails from Kakamega County, while Ebwali Boys are from Vihiga County.
Ebwali failed to contain pressure from Musingu in an entertaining encounter, failing to score and letting in 2 goals during the match.
Musingu will now proceed to the Nationals and meet other regional football giants, including last year’s National Football Champions, Highway Secondary School, who are Nairobi region champions.
The National Secondary School Games will be intense as the Soccer Boys Champs will be squaring off to seek slots at the East Africa Secondary School Games later in August.
Highway Secondary School will try to defend their title against Musingu, St. Joseph Boys High School from Kitale, among other strong teams from various regions.
In the Girls Category, Butere Girls, also known as the Red Commandos, defended their Regional Girls Soccer title after beating Madira Girls 1-0 during the finals on Saturday.
The Red Commandos are headed to the Nationals with eyes set on the East Africa Secondary School games.
Butere Girls last year played at the finals of the Forum for East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSA) soccer, losing narrowly to St. Noa of Uganda at Bukedea Stadium.
In other sporting fields, Malava Boys emerged champions in Volleyball Boys, while Bishop Sulumeti Girls emerged champions in Volleyball Girls.
St. Peters Mumias Boys are the Rugby 7’s Boys champions, while St. Maurice Mwira Girls are the Rugby 7’s Girls Western Region Champions.
