The National Government has operationalized Pawteng’ sub-location in Nyang’oma location, Muhoroni constituency, Kisumu county, in a move aimed at bringing public services closer to more than 5,000 residents.
The new administrative unit was officially launched on Friday at Pawteng Primary School and Ms Everlyn Akella installed as the area Assistant Chief.
Speaking during the occasion, North-East Kano Deputy County Commissioner Beatrice Bikeyo urged residents to work closely with national government administration officials to overcome persistent security challenges in the area.
Bikeyo also challenged the newly appointed Assistant Chief to uphold integrity, professionalism and high moral standards while discharging her duties.
“You are now the representative of the President in this sub-location. Your title requires you to conduct yourself with utmost respect to earn the trust of the locals,” Bikeyo said.
Nyang’oma Location Chief Joseph Gwaye commended the administration of President William Ruto for establishing new administrative units to improve access to government services at the grassroots.
Gwaye called on the local community to support the new Assistant Chief as she takes up her new responsibilities.
On her part Assistant Chief Akella pledged to work with residents and other stakeholders to promote peace, security and social cohesion.
“Development cannot take place where there is insecurity, conflict, violence or mistrust,” she said, urging residents to reject violence, discrimination, incitement and criminal activities that threaten the safety and unity of the community.
The establishment of the new Sub-location, she remarked, marks the new chapter of close government services, strong community engagement, peace, security, unity and inclusive development.
“This will provide an opportunity for the residents to access government services more conveniently, and have their concerns, challenges and priorities communicated more efficiently,” she said.
Nyang’oma Location, which has a population of more than 5,000 people, now has four sub-locations: Wangaya 1, Sidho East 2, Kamswa South and Pawteng’.
The Ministry of Interior and National Administration is also in the process of operationalizing newly created administrative units across Kisumu County and other parts of the country.
Recruitment of chiefs and assistant chiefs for the new locations and sub-locations is also ongoing.
