Over 150 National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) in Laikipia County have been sensitized on digital data collection to help the government identify and address the development needs of residents.
The three-day training brought together the county commissioner, assistant county commissioners, chiefs and assistant chiefs, who are expected to collect data at the grassroots level, particularly on vulnerable households and the challenges affecting them.
The training is part of the Second Phase of a government programme aimed at equipping National Government Administration Officers with skills to conduct digital grassroots data collection.
The exercise done by the State Department of Economic Planning is expected to provide reliable information that will help the government understand the needs of communities and guide the planning and implementation of development programmes.
The officers were also trained on data privacy, management and the timely submission of information collected from the grassroots.
Laikipia County Commissioner Duncan Muyesu said the training was important in ensuring that government officers keep pace with technological advancements while improving the collection and management of data.
“The world is changing, and new trends are emerging, especially now in a period of technological era; hence, the government should sensitize the public service officers on how to use those technologies,” said the County Commissioner.
He said accurate and timely data would enable the government to make informed decisions and better respond to the needs of vulnerable households across the county.
“NGAO officers at the grassroots level help the government to gather and disseminate data for use in different government policies and development,” said the County Administrator.
State Department of Economic planning, Chief Economist Abbas Mohammed Nur, said that the sensitisation would help the government officers share accurate data and in a timely way, aimed to boost efficient resources allocation.
