Kisumu Governor, Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, has called for global peace and urged international organisations to take the lead in resolving conflicts among warring nations.
Speaking during the International Day of Peace celebrations on Sunday in Kisumu County, Nyong’o emphasised the need for the government to address internal border disputes, saying peace must begin at home.
He stressed the role of young people in conflict resolution, urging communities to embrace peaceful dialogue.

“Youth must start being peace ambassadors from now on to build a strong foundation for the future. We must empower them and give them a seat at the dialogue table, because peace should be a powerful call to action,” he said.
Nyanza Regional Commissioner (RC), Flora Mworoa, echoed the sentiments, calling on individuals in border regions, particularly Migori and Narok, to surrender illegal arms before the government takes enforcement measures to mop them up.
She commended security agencies for their efforts in maintaining stability and urged the youth to resist negative peer influence and political manipulations.
The event, held under the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World”, highlighted the importance of inter-ethnic and intergenerational dialogue in promoting national unity and non-violent conflict resolution.
Activities included a peace procession and cultural performances, serving as a reminder of the need for dialogue and cooperation in building a just and harmonious society.
In recognition of their efforts, the County Governments of Kisumu and Kericho were awarded peace trophies by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) for championing peace-building and conflict mitigation within their counties and with neighbouring regions.
