ODM nominations kick off in Ugunja

By P, KNA

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party nominations for Ugunja constituency in Siaya kicked off today amid complaints of irregularities by some aspirants.

According to Siaya county Party elections committee member, Tony Ogola, the exercise was going on well in all the 33 polling centres.

Ogola said that no ugly incident has been reported, adding that they expect peace to prevail.

However, candidates Joseph Otieno Alur and Fredrick Owino lamented that irregularities were allowed to prevail, among them continuous registration of ODM members despite assurance that the membership register had been closed.

Addressing the media at Simerro ACK church where he cast his vote, Owino said the incident was proof enough that party mandarins were using tricks to force a candidate down the throats of Ugunja constituents.

Another candidate who is seeking to fly the ODM ticket during the November, 27, 2025 by elections, Joseph Otieno Alur, who cast his vote at Nyasanda Technical Institute, expressed frustration over the lack of transparency in the organisation of the nominations.

He said that most party members were not aware of the merged polling centres as the party did not communicate the same on time.

Their colleague, Moses Omondi who voted at Siror Rock Creek Church, however hailed the exercise as smooth.

Omondi however called on the party’s elections committee to ensure that no ODM member who is legible to vote was turned away.

The Ugunja parliamentary seat fell vacant following the resignation of energy cabinet secretary, Opiyo Wandayi to join the broad-based government.
