The management of Nyandiwa Level Four Hospital in Homa Bay county has defended payments of over Sh 20 million that the facility received from the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Officials confirmed that the hospital in Gwassi North Ward received the money procedurally, dismissing allegations that SHA had sent money to a non-existent facility.
Mr Fredrick Owino, the medical officer in charge of the hospital said the facility received the money under a bank account name Nyandiwa Dispensary.
He said that the facility did not change its original name after being elevated to a level four hospital in 2022, noting the discrepancy in the names could have caused the confusion.
Owino said that the management had already budgeted for the money from SHA and other agencies noting it plans to undertake development projects within the hospital.
The projects include putting up new fully integrated outpatient and inpatient units as well as maternal and child health units.
“We can conduct minor surgeries but have to refer complex cases including cesarean section to other facilities,” Mr Owino said.
The hospital’s board of management Chairperson Zadoc Aloo said the hospital has ensured that the staff at the facility work as a team.
