More than 100 cancer patients across Kisumu County have a reason to smile after they received food and nonfood items to cushion them against the effects of Covid-19 pandemic that has rendered many families vulnerable.
Speaking during the distribution of the items donated by ROCHE Kenya, Kisumu County Governor’s wife Mrs. Dorothy Nyong’o said the items will assist the Cancer patients attending clinic at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) during this Covid 19 period.
Mrs. Nyong’o said that Covid -19 affects those with underlying health conditions more than the rest in the society therefore a need to cushion them during these tough times.
The beneficiaries received a one-month relief package consisting of maize flour, cooking oil, wheat flour, sugar, beans and hand sanitizers.
She urged more well-wishers to chip in to ensure that the cancer patients receive a balanced diet.
The Africa Cancer Foundation which she spearheads, she said, plans to perform breast prosthesis for patients who have undergone breast cancer treatment to ensure they live normally.
She called for partnerships to support the initiative, which is meant to run for the next three months.
