At least 300 youths in Makueni County have been trained on essential soft and digital skills through a youth empowerment program organized by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Brighter Monday jointly with Anita Mbinya Foundation.
The youths who benefited were drawn from Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Wote Campus and Makueni Vocational and Technical Training Institute (MIVEC).
Through the programme that is initiated by Anita who is the Spouse of Governor Mutula Kilonzo, youths will be equipped with skills crucial for employability and entrepreneurship hence make them self-reliant.
On her part, Mrs. Mutula who is also the Executive Director of the Foundation encouraged the young people to apply the skills acquired and embrace innovation and technology while saying the programme will continue for the next two years.
“The program aims at empowering our youths with soft and digital skills. Our young people need to be thought about, they need to be involved, that is why Anita Mbinya Foundation has stepped in,” said Mrs. Mutula during a training held at Wote Social Hall on Wednesday.
“We intend the training to be carried out across the Makueni County and if possible, even beyond,” she added.
Speaking at the same event, the Brighter Monday Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hilda Bushenga said that the program intends to equip the young people with life changing skills for both personal growth and entry into the competitive job market.
Consequently, Bushenga also told the youths to think positively, have self-confidence and be humble and disciplined in order to overcome the modern challenges especially in the job market.
“Internet offers countless opportunities if used positively and productively,” said Bushenga.
Those included Brighter Monday Managing Director Sarah Ndegwa and Boniface Muting’a Youth Director Makueni County.
