Political leadership urged to restrain the youth against violence

Newly posted Isiolo County Commissioner David Kiprop has called upon the local political leadership to prevail upon youth to desist from violence and animosity that has led to huge loss of the County government’s property.

Mr Kiprop urged the political leaders to yearn for an environment that would give room for rapid development, for which they would leave an incredible legacy.

The County Commissioner said it was appropriate for the politicians to be accommodating of divergent views from one another and ensure their political differences do not spill over to the youth, since it could only plant seeds of discord among the young people who have to live together in peace forever.

“The security team in the area is appealing to the leaders to preach peace and forge unity of purpose so that Isiolo County can carry on and complete a lot of development plans that the government had aligned for the people of this region,” said Mr. Kiprop.

He disclosed that the government would not allow any leader from the area to drag behind the government development agenda for his or her selfish political interests adding no one was above the law and the security intelligence team would ensure law and order were maintained to the letter.

Condemning the burning to the ground of the County Secretary’s offices yesterday, the County Commissioner said that police were already investigating the perpetrators of the bizarre act that destroyed the buildings housing the County Secretary and the Human Resource Development offices, without sparing important documents and records held there.

He also criticized a group of assailants that had earlier sneaked into the county assembly after overwhelming the sentry and vandalizing some items that later sparked demonstrations by the youth and culminated in the torching of the County Secretary’s offices.

“The County offices and the Assembly are property of the people of Isiolo who seek services from there regardless of who occupies them and destroying them was a loss to the same taxpayers who are supposed to benefit,” the CC explained.

Trail of destruction left by fire incident at the County Secretary’s and Human Resource Development offices.

Accompanying the County Commissioner during inspection of the destruction left behind by the fire, County Police Commander, Paul Wambugu, urged the residents to allow the security stakeholders in the area to carry out their work as he appealed for their support for apprehension of the perpetrators of crime.

“We are yet to establish the motive of the arson incident but by the time we complete the investigation, suspects would be arraigned in court,” Wambugu said.

Isiolo County Secretary, Dadhe Boru, called for calm and urged the security team to carry out their work without any bias and ensure the suspects are apprehended.

He noted that it was the third attack on the County Offices and alleged that no arrests had been made even after the incidents were reported and names of suspects forwarded to the security organs.

Mr. Boru said that nothing was salvaged from his office and that of the Human Resources, noting that only the payroll was safe because it was online.
