President Ruto approves construction of KMTC campus in Butere

President William Ruto has approved the construction of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus in Butere Sub-County, Kakamega County.

The move aims to expand access to healthcare education and strengthen medical training capacity in the region.

The project follows a request by Butere MP Tindi Mwale, who had sought land from the county government. Mwale said the construction will be facilitated through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).

He noted that the new KMTC campus will complement the recently completed Butere County Level Four Hospital by offering hands-on training opportunities for medical students.

“This is a milestone for our people. The new KMTC will work closely with Butere County Hospital to ensure our students get the best practical experience while helping improve healthcare delivery in the area,” said Mwale.

President Ruto assured the residents that the national government will provide financial support where necessary to ensure the project’s success.

“MP Tindi, you can now go ahead and build the facility, but if you encounter any challenges, I am here,” said the President.

He emphasized that the government remains committed to strengthening medical education and healthcare infrastructure across the country.

The Head of State added that the Butere campus will not only train future health workers but also create employment and boost the local economy.

The KMTC Butere Campus will be the first of its kind in the sub-county and is expected to admit its first cohort of students upon completion.
