State Department for Medical Service Principal Secretary Dr Ouma Olunga, has assured patients that the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) will continue offering consistent, high-quality healthcare services following its recent upgrade.
Speaking at the hospital grounds, Dr Olunga emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring that no lives are lost due to negligence.
He noted that measures have been reinforced to guarantee that patients receive top-notch medical attention and quality outcomes.
“Certainly, we are keen to make sure that clinical governance is optimal. In terms of clinical governance, we are looking at patient safety and ensuring that when patients come here, they not only receive high-quality care but also care that is safe,” he said.
The PS highlighted that the government is equally concerned about patients’ experiences, stressing that JOOTRH is guided by a service delivery charter that emphasises respectful treatment, efficiency, and resolution of ailments.
Dr Olunga further noted that the hospital has undergone key reforms since its transition to a parastatal under the national government.
The change has enabled the facility to enter into partnerships and agreements with various organisations to boost service delivery.
He praised President William Ruto’s administration for fast-tracking the staff transition process, ensuring that within three months all staff were absorbed under national government structures.
According to Dr Olunga, this move has streamlined staff payments and provided stability in human resource management.
“We are grateful to the government headed by President William Ruto, who insisted that the staff transition process be completed without delay. This ensures that workers are absorbed into the national government system through the board instruments, giving them visibility and stability in their payments,” he stated.
Dr Olunga concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare in Kisumu and across the country through investment, reforms, and patient-centered service delivery.
