People living with disabilities in Samburu County ushered the New Year with a smile after receiving food donations worth Sh.700, 000.
The donations which were in form of rice, beans, tea lives and sugar were distributed in each ward across the county by the local board for persons living with disability.
The County Board Chairman, Joseph Lesingiran said part of the funds were set aside by county government to benefit the disabled persons.
“As we usher in the New Year it’s important that the less fortunate in our society are remembered. And we also urge well-wishers to support persons living with disability through various charity projects in 2020,” Lesingiran said.
Speaking after overseeing the distribution of foodstuffs at Sherp Orphanage in Maralal town on Wednesday , the County’s Director of Gender Culture and Social Services, Nasieku Letipila urged residents to join and share what they have with the less privileged in the society to during this festive season.
“We are supposed to always assist the less privileged in our communities by sharing what we have with them so that we can bring a smile on their faces,” she said.
The recipients said that for the first time, people living with disabilities have seen fruits of devolution, after a disability board was formed in 2018 to look into their affairs.
