Siaya County Commissioner Norbert Komora on Sunday called for concerted efforts to tackle security challenges in the county.
Addressing this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya town, Komora said there was a need for collaboration amongst all stakeholders instead of leaving everything in the hands of security officials.
The county commissioner, who was reacting to local leaders’ concern over rising incidents of violent crimes and femicide in the county, assured the public that the security officers were committed to bringing to book those behind the incidents.
Earlier, local leaders led by South East Alego member of the county assembly, Scholastica Madowo, called for action to bring to a stop chilling incidents where schoolgirls have become a target.
Madowo cited recent incidents in Gem Yala sub-county where schoolgirls were waylaid, raped and murdered by unknown assailants in separate incidents.
Siaya County administration police commander Roseline Onyonyi joined the county commissioner in assuring the public of their security, adding that investigations are underway.
Addressing the occasion, Siaya County secretary Joseph Ogutu, who represented Governor Orengo, said the devolved government was committed to ensuring the success of devolution.
He said that the county government has supported various initiatives aimed at ensuring food security, among other sectors of the economy.
Today’s celebrations were attended by, among others, the county police commander, Serah Koki, and the deputy county commissioner, Robert Ng’etich, among others.
