Residents of Kaksingiri West in Suba South constituency, Homa Bay County have raised concerns over the poor state of the Nyabera–Magunga road.
The residents noted that the road has increasingly become impassable during the rainy seasons.
The road’s users were stranded this morning for hours after a lorry got stuck on a muddy section near Nyadenda Trading Centre causing a major snarl up along the busy route.
The Nyabera–Magunga road is one of the main access routes linking several villages in Kaksingri West Ward to trading centres and markets.
Locals lamented that the poor road network in the area not only disrupts business but also inhibits access to schools, hospitals, and markets.
Farmers transporting produce such as cereals, vegetables and fruits are particularly affected, as vehicles often get stuck for hours, leading to losses.
Jacklyn Akinyi, a fish trader, said that she has been incurring heavy losses whenever she fails to reach the market in good time to sell her highly perishable fish stocks.
“We urged our Members of County Assembly and the local Member of Parliament to move with speed and ensure that the roads are tarmacked.” She said
The local leaders have acknowledged the road’s poor state and promised upgrades, but residents say little has been done to provide a lasting solution.
