A section of Siaya residents have filed a petition at the local county assembly, demanding to know the whereabouts of the area governor, James Orengo and his deputy William Odour.
Through the Siaya Bunge la Mwananchi forum, the residents, led by an advocate of the High Court ,Maurice Okumu, now wants the county assembly to urgently exercise its oversight function and address the continuous absence of the two office holders.
Addressing the media outside the assembly after presenting the petition to the deputy clerk of the assembly, Okumu further accused the speaker of the county assembly of presiding over execution of functions which may lead to conflict of interest between the executive and the assembly.
“The citizens of Siaya have continued to observe the county speaker attending public functions and seemingly executing functions that would ordinarily be done by the executive as per the constitution” lamented Okumu adding, “the above actions by the speaker of the county assembly obviously amount to conflict of interest, given the major function of oversight by the assembly, over the executive.”
The residents called for urgent intervention by the assembly to clear the air over the whereabouts of the two leaders, adding that the citizens of Siaya continue to remain with anxiety, over the continuous absence of the duo.
They further called on the assembly to clear the air over claims that the county government has not submitted the 2025/2026 budget due to the absence of Orengo and his deputy.
