Riabai primary students to benefit from Modern Science Laboratory

By C, KNA

Learners at Riabai Primary School in Kiambu Constituency are set to benefit from a modern Junior Secondary School (JSS) laboratory currently under construction by the area MP, Machua Waithaka.

The new science laboratory aims to give students a hands-on learning experience, enabling them to move beyond theory and engage in practical experiments.

For years, science subjects in many public schools have been taught without adequate facilities, limiting learners’ understanding of key concepts.

However, this project marks a major shift toward competency-based learning, where students can explore, experiment, and innovate.

Teachers at Riabai Primary have expressed optimism that the lab will greatly improve performance in science subjects.

They say students will now be able to observe real scientific processes, which will boost comprehension and spark curiosity in STEM-related careers.

“This is a dream come true for us as teachers. With this lab, we can finally teach science the way it should be taught,” said Mrs. Kamau during the site inspection.

Parents have also welcomed the development with gratitude, saying it will save them the struggle of transferring their children to better-equipped schools.

“We are happy that our children will finally have access to proper learning facilities within our community. It shows our leaders care about the education of our children,” said Gladys Wairimu.

Beyond the laboratory, Riabai Primary School is undergoing a comprehensive facelift that will completely transform its appearance and functionality.

The ongoing works include tiling classrooms, installing new roofs, constructing a modern gate and perimeter wall for security, laying cabros across the compound, and building new ablution blocks.

Once completed, these improvements will create a safe, clean, and comfortable learning environment for both students and teachers.

MP Machua Waithaka emphasized that the project reflects his broader vision for education across Kiambu Constituency. “We want every child to learn in a dignified, well-equipped environment that inspires excellence. Investing in education is investing in the future,” he stated.

Residents of Riabai are now eagerly awaiting the project’s completion, believing it will raise the school’s academic standards and inspire more enrollment.

For many, the construction of the modern lab is not just about science lessons — it represents hope, progress, and a brighter educational future for their children.
