The Kisumu County Government has, during this Financial Year (2025/2026), set aside more than Sh54 million to fund a series of infrastructure projects in Kolwa Central Ward, Kisumu East Constituency.
The funding will primarily support the construction and rehabilitation of access roads, installation of market floodlights, building of bridges and ECDE classrooms, and the reconstruction of dykes across the ward.
Kolwa Central MCA Kelvin Oraro, who championed the allocation, reaffirmed his commitment to improving infrastructure at the grassroots.
Speaking to Kenya News Agency, Oraro said the projects are aimed at enhancing road connectivity and boosting economic opportunities for residents.
The County Department of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure has already handed over eight road projects to contractors, with work expected to commence despite ongoing rains.
Among the key road works is the maintenance of the Tido–Kunya, Corner S, and Renja–Rarieda Kaloo access roads, which have been allocated Sh3 million each.
Others are the Mowlem–Ragumo and Mola roads, which have been allocated Sh4.5 million and Sh2.5 million, respectively.
Further upgrades include the opening and graveling of Ka Anduyi–Ko Ongany and Siwalo–Otera roads at Sh3 million each, alongside Sh4 million earmarked for graveling Awuonda Road.
To address flooding, part of the funds will go towards de-silting Nyatimo, Kaodago, Kopenda, and Koudo streams, as well as reconstructing dykes along Kangwena Auji–Ogango and Kaokore–Kabatambo–Wadanda waterways.
The development plan also includes installation of high-mast floodlights at Land Ouko market and Rae Kanyaika, at a combined cost of Sh4 million.
The investment comes just months after residents staged protests over the poor state of roads in the ward, which had severely disrupted transport, particularly during the rainy season.
