Siaya county government is set to roll out school feeding program in all public ECD centers in the region to enhance pupils concentration and learning at the institutions.
Speaking in Bondo during a stakeholders consultative meeting that brought together primary school headteachers and ministry of educations officials, the county ECD coordinator Trizer Okoth said that over 670 ECD centers across all the six sub counties will benefit from fortified porridge courtesy of the county government.
Okoth revealed that the program will commence next week on the 27th January after the official launch by governor James Orengo.
The ECD coordinator further revealed that most ECD pupils in region go to school on empty stomach and are unable to concentrate in class affecting the quality of education.
“We thank governor Orengo for caring for the plight of our children by initiating this program. The fortified porridge will not only give teachers easy time to teach children with high concentration but also improve rotation of children in school. ” she said.
Okoth stated that the program will equally take the burden off parents who will be sure that their children will be feeding in school hence giving the opportunity to engage in other economic activities to improve family livehoods.
She asked the headteachers to prudently manage the project resources provided by the county government cautioning them against pilferage of the fortified floor and demanding monthly reports from the headteachers for smooth running of the program.
Okoth on the other hand urged the teachers and parents to own and embrace the program in their school for sustainability.
