Students undergo software engineering training

Some 34 students from Kajiado Central constituency have benefitted from a partnership programme that will enable them to become Computer Software Engineers.

Memusi Hope Foundation has partnered with Moringa School, Kenya Network Information Centre (KENIC) and Osta Tech Ltd to train the students from every ward in Kajiado Central constituency in the project dubbed Entaisere e Kenya (The future of Kenya).

Speaking during the launch of the training, Moringa School Director of Marketing Steve Nyikuli said that the partnership sought to establish a centre of excellence for coding in Kajiado.

“We will train the students on basic coding skills, website development, application development and all that entails coding,” he said.

Nyikuli noted that the programme is unique as they will train the students on market aligned programmes with a guarantee of getting them placements.

Oscar Mwai, a director at Osta Tech Ltd said that his company would be engaging other schools in the remote parts of Kajiado, Samburu, Isiolo, Moyale and Turkana in a similar programme.

Memusi Hope Foundation CEO Lillian Memusi noted that the Entaisere e Kenya (The future of Kenya) programme aims to secure businesses and job opportunities for the graduates after the training.

Some of the trainees in this first cohort of 34 will be recruited as trainers of more other cohorts of the Entaisere e Kenya flagship education programme.

Memusi noted that though the foundation aims to empower all persons in the Maasai community, she is glad that 80 per cent of the trainees in this flagship training were women.

The foundation hopes to scale up the project across Kajiado and the entire country.
