Supervision of Development projects in Kiambu County Resume

Members of the Kiambu County Development Coordination Committee Plans to resume supervision of development projects in the area.

The five member team are expected to assemble at the county commissioner’s office by 10.00a.m to begin the Inspection programme.

According to communication from the chairman who is the area County commissioner Mr.Wilson Wanyanga, the committee shall tour the Kanunga-Banana road project in Kiambaa sub-county.

They shall proceed to tour 3 roads in Gatundu south namely, Muigai-inn-Ichaweri-Gatundu-Kingoo-Kibichoi-Ichaweri-Nembu-Gachika, Broadways-Kiandutu-Beach loop Roads-RWC 125.

This is the first Project visit after the team took a break following the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in the country in March this year.

Prior to today’s tour, the committee held its first meeting a fortnight ago in which issues of land grabbing along the proposed site of the Western by-pass were discussed at length.

Briefing the meeting, Engineer Peter Mbugua of Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) revealed that scores of developers in the Ruaka area had constructed rental houses on government land.

“They have encroached on government land and there is no compensation for such people” he told the meeting.

He regretted that the people had moved out and when they did not see any development coming up on the said land, they returned and some of them said “we had moved out but when we did not see anything coming up, we returned”.

He added that it was an indication that some of the squatters knew that they were illegally occupying government land which can be repossessed any time.

During the meeting, the chairman advised the concerned department to liase with the Police commander Mr.Ali Nuno closely so as to execute the eviction in an orderly manner.Mr.Nuno promised to co-operate by availing the required number of officers to execute the eviction order so as to pave way for the construction of the western by-pass.

The committee comprises of criminal investigation officer, police commander, county intelligence coordinator, county information officer and the county commissioner who is the chairman. The secretary is a director from the Presidential Delivery Unit.
