Conmen purporting to be directors of Education stationed at Ministry’s Headquarters at Jogoo house Nairobi have conned several head teachers in Ijara Sub County.
The teachers were called by impersonators who told them to send money through M-pesa to cater for transportation of desks, chairs and computers to their various schools.
About four teachers were conned a total of Sh181, 000 with Masalani losing Sh85, 000, Hulugho Sh56, 000 and Sangailu Sh40, 000. The affected teachers reported to the police in Masalani and Garissa.
The conmen allegedly told the teachers that they would claim the money upon receiving the goods.
Ijara Sub County Director of Education Mr. Ibrahim Odowa said the teachers should have liaised with him and cautioned them to be extra vigilant.
Police from department of cybercrime are tracking the culprits some of whose phone signals showed they were operating from Majengo in Nairobi while the rest had switched off their phones.
